Centre for Assessment & Recognition and the Learning Skills Council, through its Train to Gain service, have training grants of up to £500 available for the North West’s top business leaders, to help the ‘best of the best’ get even better.
The £500 training grants give business people a great opportunity to take their business and their own workplace skills to the next level. Whether it be one-to-one mentoring, coaching, a short course or a formal qualification, the flexible funding is aimed at helping both professional and personal development.
Many business leaders across the North West have already accessed the special leadership and management development grants and reaped the rewards. Tailored specifically to each person’s needs and requirements, a Specialist Adviser will organise a meeting at a mutually convenient time to discuss specific requirements and then recommend a plan of action. This personal Leadership Development Plan will be followed to the end of the training, with objectives agreed up front and then evaluated at the end of the training.
Taking this plunge and getting some support has enabled many business leaders to focus on their key development areas so that their businesses grow and develop.
The £500 free training grant can be further enhanced to help leaders gain even more benefits from the professional training. If a candidate’s own business contributes a further £500, this will be matched pound-for-pound by a further grant, giving a potential total pot of £1,500 training budget.
The funding is managed by Warrington based Centre for Assessment & Recognition and provided by the Learning Skills Council through the Train to Gain Service.

Case Study:
Having been assessed on his business skills Charles Jackson, managing director of Recycling Co UK Ltd in Preston, undertook a personal Leadership Development Plan, funded by a grant.
“I attended the Lancashire Leaders Course, which was identified as a course that I could really gain from. The training was fantastic and I’d certainly recommend it to any managing director in the north west – there’s always room to improve your skills.
“I learned a lot about the structure of businesses, and it really opened my eyes to other structures that are available and could be employed in my organisation. I gained a lot of information from peers who attended the same course, and more than anything it gave me confidence in my own convictions. I found that a lot of decisions that I’ve made in the past were similar to ones that other business leaders had made.
“I still use some of the toolkits given to me now, and always remember and apply the attributes that make up a great managing director. The course also helped me to guide Recycling Co UK Ltd through the Investors in People accreditation process, something that I’m proud we have achieved.”
